This inauguration of Parur Sri Sundaram Iyer Trust got off to an auspicious start with the 'Anugraha Bhashanam" by His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal at Narada Gana Sabha on 8th October 2001. His Holiness was greeted with Mangala Isai by Seshampatti Sivalingam and party (Nagaswarem), at 6.45 PM. Smt. Ramaa Sundareshwaran and Smt. Lakshmi Krishnaswami sang the prayer song. Vidwan Sri M.S.Anantharaman, son and disciple of Parur Sri Sundaram Iyer welcomed the gathering and outlined the objectives of the Trust. Guests of honour Sri.B.R.Kumar (DDG, South AIR Doordarshan) Sri. A.Nagarajan (Secretary, Govt of TamilNadu) and Sri Nalli Kuppuswami Chetty received the first copies of "Samarpanam", an audio CD featuring the violin trio Parur Sri. M.A. Anantharaman and his sons Sri M.A.Sundareshwaran and Sri M.A.Krishnaswami from His Holiness Sri. Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. Brahmashree Prof. Parur Sri Sundaram Iyer (1891 - 1974) learnt violin under Trivandrum Ramaswamy Bhagawathar, Asthana vidwan of Travancore Palace. He was the first person to introduce violin in Hindustani Music in the year 1909, after he was trained by Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, principal of Gandhara Mahavidyalaya. On the inaugural day, tributes were paid to the violin Mastro Parur Sri Sundaram Iyer and felicitations were offered to Vidwan Sri M.S.Anantharaman, son and disciple of Parur Sri Sundaram Iyer on his completion of seven decades of violin performance. Leading musicians Sangitha Kalanidhi Dr.T.K.Murthy, Pandit Krishnanand, NadaBrahmam Isai Perarignar Dr.Kunnakudi R.Vaidyanathan, Mridanga Samrat Madras A.Kannan, Padma Bhushan Lalgudi G.Jayaraman, Innisai Nadamani M.Chandrasekharan, Prof .T.R.Subhramanian, Sri R.Krishnaswami (Secretary Narada Gana Sabha), Sangeetha Laya Samrat T.V.Gopalakrishnan, Dr.V.V.Srivatsa and Dr. N. Ramanathan (University of Madras) recalled their associations with Parur Sri Sundaram Iyer and paid rich tributes to his contributions in the field of both Hindustani and Carnatic music, especially in violin. The Parur Sri Sundaram Iyer Trust aims to promote Carnatic music in India and abroad, helping deserving musicians , contribute to music education and serve the field of Carnatic music. On the inaugural day a cheque for Rs.5000/- was awarded to Violinist Sri.Sundareshwaran.
